Way back in 1996 I tracked down a pair of Nike Air Rift and parted with my hard earned cash to obtain them. I was super happy with my purchase as I had something that I hadn't seen anyone else wearing however the barrage of abuse that I got from my Camel Toe Ninja Turtle Hoof Shoes nearly put me off them. Like a true 'Sneakerhead', I took the abuse and stuck with them. Before you knew it, the Nike Air Rift was accepted within the General Public and the thought of wearing a split toed sandal wasn't so scary after all.
Since 96, we've seen the Air Rift come and go and like most Nike silhouettes, we've seen some good and bad executions. Thankfully, this Summer sees Nike release 2 original colourways in the Nike Air Rift. Inspired by the barefoot long distance runners from Kenya and named after the Kenyan Rift Valley, the Rift's Split Toe design was actually inspired by the Great Rift Valley fault line. With Kenya playing such a large influence on the Rift, it only seemed right for one of the OG colourways to be coloured up in the colours of the Kenyan Flag.
Monday 27th April 2015 will see Wellgosh drop 2 OG colourways in the Nike Air Rift. As you all know, Nike have tightened up their Quickstrike Program resulting in few stockists and even fewer stock allocations. We're anticipating the release of the Rift to be a popular one here at Wellgosh so keep your eyes peeled to be hitting the site from Monday 27th April 2015.
