2017 not only celebrates a milestone for the Air Max 1 but also sees the Air Max 97 celebrate 20 strong years. This year has already been a great one for fans of the 97 with welcomed re-releases of the Silver and Gold Bullets and a handful of sought after collabs with the likes of Undefeated and the UK's very own Skepta. The older heads will certainly remember the Max 97's when they first dropped, I certainly do, Cobra Sports in The Shires is where I first set my eyes on them and like many of us, I've been a fan ever since. For the older generation, the re-releases of the Black/Volt 97 will wet our appetite more than the Silver Bullets. Although the 'Volt' 97 released 8 years later in 2005, it was available as an 'Asia Exclusive' meaning that they were not only hard to get your hands on but they'd cost you a small fortune so this seasons 're-retro' is a very welcomed one.
Classically executed in typical 97 fashion comprising of mesh underlays, synthetic nubuck overlays, 3M linear accents which team up with a popping Black and Volt colourway. A firm favourite of the All Saints back in the day, often being heavily rotated with a pair of Tailwinds back in the day, Shaznay, Nicole, Mel and Natalie knew the score, not musically but certainly when it came to their footwear.
Thankfully, we'll be getting hold of these beauties and although they're not dropping under the NikeLab or Quickstrike umbrellas, we've not got a lot of them coming. We're expecting the old school heads to turn out for these as well as the new breed sneakerheads and then there's the resellers to worry about too. Wellgosh will be releasing the Nike Air Max 97 'Neon' 921824-004 in limited numbers on Saturday 28th October 17.
