We've just had a nice delivery from Nike turn up, and it's four different colour ways of the Tailwind! This wicked runner makes a well deserved comeback after its initial re-release a few months back.
The Tailwind was handed its debut in 1978, when it was released in limited numbers prior to the Honolulu Marathon. It officially hit the shelves in 1979 and was an instant-hit thanks to it's revolutionary design, being the first shoe to feature an air unit inside the sole.
The Tailwind has been pretty popular among staff at the shop, sparking yet another debate about who's the fastest. (Still working on getting this shop sports day sorted.)
So the myth goes, in 1977 an aerospace engineer called Frank Rudy approached Nike with an ingenious idea, to put an air unit inside a running shoe.
The idea was suggested as a more effective form of cushioning for runners, making their performances better. With Nike being obsessed with constantly pushing the limits in sports, they took the idea on board and hit the ground running.
And just like that, a legend was born - Thanks to the iconic waffle sole, air unit and premium materials used on the upper. We're really happy to have these kicks back, and it seems like they're appealing to everybody - from the old boys to the young guns, you just can't beat a comfy runner.
